Life @ IIM Rohtak

5.25 credits in term 1, 6.25 credits in term 2 and 6 credits in term 3; that constitutes the division of credits in the first year of the two year PGPM at IIM Rohtak. Carrying the textbooks would equal lifting weights in a gym.
And putting all that is in the books into one’s head is an exercise that makes an IIM grad what he/she is worth in the market, that is what makes an IIM grad command the big bucks and make everyone believe he/she is worth it.
The guidance of the best of the brains in the best of settings with the best of names attached, a brand called IIM, what more does one need to say. But that alone is not what makes life at IIM Rohtak so special. A journey becomes so much more special when the people we are on the journey with are special. IIM Rohtak started off, with IIML mentoring, with a group of individuals who all had dreams and passions for their future and careers. But it didn’t take long for them to come together and find the common passion, the common objective. And that is what makes us special.
Six months old and already we have crossed miles. When we started off, we were just a building and students. Being a part of the founding culture is something wonderful, that few can boast of, we among those lucky few. We had our own cricket tournament, replicating the lines if IPL, called Runsangram; our own Counter Strike tournament, Digidice and a Table Tennis tournament.
What better way to look at Life at IIM Rohtak than to look at a day spent here. A typical busy day starts with the classes beginning at around 9:30 am. Awake by 8 to 8:30 am, its time to rush and get ready for class. The breakfast is ready in the mess by 8 am, so when all dressed for the class, it’s pit stop at the mess. Stuffing the parotas or the sandwiches into the mouths and hands, it’s to the legs now, stamping the ground and pushing ahead. The class, about a five minute walk from the hostel is reached just in time for the class, and the doors close and the class begins as the clock’s bigger hand strikes 6.
At 11, it’s a half hour break in the class and its teatime rush to the university canteen. Back to the class within the next thirty minutes, the class resumes until 1, when it is lunchtime. An active walk back, and the food awaits. The classes start again at 2, until 5:30 pm, with the half hour teatime break at 3:30 pm. Back at the hostel, the after class fun starts. Less than ten hours awake, the peak of activity is here and now.
It is talk time and laughter time for the next hour or so, after which the rooms are occupied once again, and the books revisited, while there are also those discussing classes. At 8, it is dinner again. After dinner, it is assembly time for the planning and completion of assignments, projects and other responsibilities, which eat into the hours hungrily, and before knowing it is 11. And it is now TT time. While singles are the favorite for many, many others prefer doubles. The game extends into the night and before a break in the rhythm of the game, it is 1 am. After which, it is book time again, continuing with what was being done prior to the game. Two hours more, and it is time to sleep, for the next day awaits and the adventure continues.
It is not all books at IIM Rohtak; while books are an integral part, they are just a part. In everything we do, everything in the day, we find the joy of being here and the challenge of bettering ourselves. It is life at IIM Rohtak and even the literature blends in.
